Commonman’s Puff – Beedi Advertisements I hail from Kolar District. Whenever I pass through a town or a village in Kolar, what catches my eyes are the huge wall advertisements of Beedis. I spent nearly three years to reach out many remote places, capturing some of these vivid colored Beedi advertisements. It’s a common sight to observe many such Beedi wall hoardings in rural places of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
The elite men heeled gentile folk smoke Cigarettes, Cigars and pipes. The poor formers and factory workers relish their organic beedi. Tobacco is wrapped in Tanda leaf not in paper. The branded beedis like Ganesh, Pistol, Sharada and Lakshmi beedies share advertisement space with Spiderman, fierce boxers and beautiful damsels. They also invite cinema heroes and heroines to user their charm to lure customers.
