In CoPilot, student data is organized in one place so that college counselors can access information and use predictive analytics to deliver targeted interventions to students and ensure college completion.
After using the system internally, word of the new platform began to spread. Colleges, universities, school districts and other nonprofits began to reach out to license the software for their own coaching and mentoring programs. For years, CoPilot’s growth took off organically, with virtually no targeted sales or marketing support.
In 2018, ECMC Foundation made a $400,000 grant to College Forward to take CoPilot to the next level, with the goal of reaching 1 million students by 2025. The investment in CoPilot along with a co-investment from the Kresge Foundation, aimed to accelerate CoPilot’s long-term development, scale the platform and build a sustainable revenue stream for College Forward’s coaching program. Recurring licensing and training fees from CoPilot provide unrestricted revenue to support College Forward’s expanding coaching programs in Texas, reducing their reliance on philanthropic revenue streams.
Since the investment was made in July of 2018, CoPilot has added three new staff members, increased their revenue by over 30%, and expanded to 13 partners using the CoPilot system to impact more than 350,000 students on campuses across the country.
