Hastily Prepared Defense against an Combined Arms assault

Hastily Prepared Defense against an Combined Arms assault Follwoing on from seizing a location as a FOB and resupply point the Royal Marines Milsim Unit (RMMU) reacted to intelligence threatening a combined arms assault under cover of darkness.

The understrength Section with a Commando Helicopter Force Pilot (CHF) settled in to wait. The wait was not long and too soon tanks were spotted broaching over the swell of high ground to the North. As the Airey Fairys are best suited to shouting orders and looking around helplessly the CHF pilot took it upon himself to use thermal range finding equipment to call out target designations for the busy section to engage.

After a sharp firefight it seemed we had depleted the enemy's heavy armour assets and the Pilot abandoned the Groundpounders to the tender mercies of OpFor infantry assaults and spooled up Viper 1.1 to offer CAS at longer range.

Ahhhhhhhh, as the famed Scottish Poet and Bon Viveur Rabbie Burns was wont to say:

"The best laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft a-gley, [often go awry]
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promised joy."

In the case of the Pilot the air mission far to quickly went from Hunter-Killer to Precious Prey as an overlooked infantry anti-air specialist took a snap shot at short range and forced the pilot to call "Mayday" and seek to do a Deadstick landing away from OpFor.

All went well until the last minute when ARMA Physics decided to slap the pilot "Oooops upside his head".

Having regained the questionable safety of the bedsieged base he sought to engage enemies with a fixed heavy weapon before heading downstairs in an attempt to emulate the derring do of the RMMU Marines. Only to have a ringside viewpoint of an IED that terminated the mission.......... and to all a Good Night.
