In terms of trimming the fat in their squad, there are increasingly strong reports than Shkodran Mustafi could be on his way out. Whilst Arsenal could potentially be a man down given that William Saliba will spend 19/20 at his parent club St. Etienne, the fact that the side will be lining up with a back four rather than a back five will negate this to a big extent - as will the return of Calum Chambers. Laurent Koscienley has also been heavily moved with a link away, though. Other players that could potentially move on according to reports include Granit Xhaka, Nacho Monreal and potentially one of the side’s strike duo, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
Arguably the biggest issue for Arsenal in terms of their ambitions this season is the strength of those around them. The Gunners seem to have made significant strides forward this summer and are beginning to really take on that Emery blueprint, however their top six rivals have improved too. Tottenham Hotspur have brought in one of the best two-way midfielders in world football in the form of Tanguy Ndombele, whilst Manchester United have brought in duel monster Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Welsh speedster Daniel James and continue to be heavily linked with Harry Maguire, Paulo Dybala and Bruno Fernandes. It remains to be seen how Arsenal will kick on next season, but they are undoubtedly moving in the right direction.
