We live in a world where information on a variety of subjects has never been more accessible to such a large number of people - yet ignorance advances. This is even true of ignorance about things that you can easily know today. The spread of rumors, at first easy to deny, spreads faster and more widely than any denial; public policies are sometimes formulated and implemented without taking into account relevant scientific knowledge on the subject; and even the most exotic conspiracy theories today can attract an impressive number of supporters.
In response, an increasing number of researchers from various fields have shown an interest in better understanding the nature of ignorance. What exactly is ignorance? How to better study it? What are its impacts? Under what conditions may ignorance be desirable? And how to handle it when it is undesirable?
