US President Donald Trump tweeted on September 11, 2019, that the US would delay the next round of tariffs on Chinese goods for two weeks.
The sanctions were originally set to go into effect on October 1, on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Trump’s move, which both sides described as a goodwill gesture, came after Beijing said it would exempt 16 types of US products from Chinese tariffs.
Chinese and US trade negotiators are reportedly set to resume talks at a meeting expected to take place in Washington later in October.
