China’s top legislature has voted to revise the nationwide drug administration law as part of the country's efforts to help patients with rare diseases.
The decision made on August 26, 2019, will change rules about diagnosis and treatment of such illnesses as well offer financial support to those in need.
In China, more than 20 million people suffer from rare diseases.
While drugs and treatments are available for some of the diseases, a lack of adequate regulation and high costs can add to patient suffering.
