(16 Sep 2019) Germany's foreign minister has sharply condemned a weekend attack on major oil sites in Saudi Arabia. Heiko Maas told reporters Monday in Berlin the situation was "exceedingly worrisome", adding "this is really the very last thing that we currently need in this conflict."
The tensions roiling the Persian Gulf region escalated following the attack on the Saudi Aramco facility the US alleged Iran was responsible for, charges that Tehran denies.
Yemen's Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have claimed they targeted a Saudi processing facility and an oil field with drones.
Maas said while Germany was aware the Houthi rebels claimed responsibility, it was currently evaluating with its partners who was behind the attack.
