Hong Kong's embattled Chief Executive Carrie Lam insisted she had "not even contemplated" resigning at a press conference on Tuesday.

This comes a day after an audio recording emerged of her saying she would quit if she had a "choice".

However, Lam maintained that she had "never tendered any resignation" to the Chinese government.

"The choice of not resigning is my own choice," she stated, before adding she wanted "to help Hong Kong in a very difficult situation and to serve the people of Hong Kong."

The chief executive did not question the authenticity of the audio recording.

The press conference followed another weekend of protests, the 14th in a row, with clashes between police and demonstrators throughout the city.

The movement was sparked by changes to a law which facilitated extradition to mainland China.
