Johnson: not willing to contemplate Brexit failure

Johnson: not willing to contemplate Brexit failure (6 Sep 2019) While UK parliament meets Friday seeking to pass a law that would compel the government to seek a Brexit postponement Friday, the Prime Minister insists he will leave the EU on the 31st of October with a deal.

When asked by journalists on Friday if he would resign should he not be able to get a deal by the end of October, Johnson replied, "this is not a hypothesis I am willing to contemplate".

The Prime Minister is in Scotland Friday to announce a 211 million pound boost for Scottish farmers and used the opportunity to promote his interest in free trade deals.

"I want to be leading a country where we are building a fantastic new partnership with our friends over the Channel, where we're doing free trade deals around the world ... Look at fantastic Scottish beef, for instance, which I have just been looking at, not a morsel of it currently goes to America," he said.

Meanwhile, Britain's opposition parties are deciding whether to back Johnson's call for an election, or try to put more pressure on the embattled prime minister first.

Jeremy Corbyn, who heads the main opposition Labour Party, is speaking to other party leaders Friday about a vote scheduled for next week.

Johnson has lost one such vote but plans to try again Monday, saying an election is the only way to break the deadlock over Brexit.

The opposition wants to be sure that Johnson can't take Britain out of the European Union on October 31 without a divorce agreement.
