The Parenting Junkie tackles spanking as a parenting technique. Violence begets violence and hitting a kid will not teach them kindness. Hitting kids may stop the behavior for awhile but not because the child really wants to but because they become afraid. Hitting a child is not something that feels good for anyone. Hitting your child damages your relationship with them. When you hear the phrase spare the rod spoil the child it can feel like spanking a child is your only option. This however can be interpreted a different went such as to guide your children and to not guide your children would in fact spoil them. Smacking young kids is not a form of discipline that will build a deep lasting connection between you and your child. Smacking your kids as a form of discipline creates distance and friction between you and your child. When disciplining a child choose peaceful parenting (checkout my videos for more resources on that). Give yourself permission to stop smacking children no matter how counter cultural it may be for you.
