Educating the girl child doesn't mean the boy child has been forgotten, it only emphasises the benefits for not just the girls but also boys. October 11 every year is international day of the girl child and has been so since 2012. What we don't know is that most of rural Africa and most of the developing world still has a long way to go in giving girls equal opportunities. There is still need to eliminate discrimination against girls in education, skills development and training, health and nutrition, eliminate negative cultural attitudes and practices against girls by promoting girls' and women's participation in social, economic and governance platforms. Delaying pregnancy allows girls attain economic empowerment which is not only good for their them and their families but also the communities.
