St. Matthias Catholic Academy Celebrates 110 Years of Educating Queens Youth A Queens school celebrated over a century of providing an amazing education.

St. Matthias Catholic Academy has now been serving the children of Ridgewood, Queens for 110 years.

The accompanying church celebrated over a century of amazing education with a Mass celebrated by Brooklyn's Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio.

The academy was founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame, who opened the school shortly after St. Matthias Church was established.

Bishop DiMarzio says their dedication is a prime example of how Catholic education has helped nurture the faith in young people.

When the school started, St. Matthias only had 150 students and 4 teachers. Now, the academy currently has over 280 students and 16 teachers.
