Strategic Food Reserve Board holds forum with maize farmers to deliberate on pricing
Strategic Food Reserve Board have held a forum with maize farmers from Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet and Uasin Gishu Counties to get their views on pricing before settling on the maize price this year.

According to the SFR chairperson Noah Wekesa, all along prices are usually thrown to farmers without consulting them.

He said this time round however, they have decided to involve both the farmers and the millers.

Maize farmers in the region have already started harvesting their maize.

Kipkorir Menjo a maize farmer in Uasin Gishu County lauded the initiative by SFR.

He said having gotten no subsided fertilizers last year, it will be favourable to the farmers if all production cost is factored in before the price is settled on.

Mr Menjo said that the vetting process is very essential in that it will help to know the genuine farmers.

He said that as farmers they have proposed Sh3,600 per bag.

The SFR targets to get more views from maize farmers in Trans-Nzoia, Bungoma and W.Pokot counties which they have described as the granary of Kenya.
