Typhoon Hagibis continues to gradually weaken as it draws closer to Japan, but could still deliver 100mph winds and an enormous windfield of gale force conditions to a large part of the country. Moreover, Hagibis will deliver a significant surge and heavy rain which could reach 24 inches (600mm) in mountain areas. The current threat lies with central and eastern Japan, where CDPS Stage 8 (Catastrophic) conditions are now expected. Gale Advisories are in effect for Ogasawara, Amami, Kyushu, Shikoku and parts of Honshu. Warnings could be upgraded on the main islands later, with more updates from Force Thirteen tonight.
