Killing Fish for No Reason

I decided to make this video to shine some light on how wasteful and cruel humans are. Net fishing has to be the most destructive kind of fishing in the world. So much sea life is destroyed by dragging nets through our oceans. This is a very small example of what is happening all around the world and has been for thousands of years more so within the last century.

Everyone wonders why it's hard to catch fish.. Like myself I'm sure you've all heard the "used to be more fish" stories. This is the reason for the decline; nets. You can help make a positive change by not using or supporting net fishing, meaning catch your own fish and keep only what you need.

Some facts about the fish population and the damage nets are doing to our sea world. Overfishing – catching more fish than the ocean can produce – has been an ongoing challenge for fisheries managers for decades. About 25% of US fish stocks are overfished and 90% of global fish stocks are fully or overfished, which has led to the collapse of some very important fisheries and fishing communities.

Certain types of fishing methods destroy or damage the seafloor habitats where fishes and many other seafloor animals live. These fishing methods are notorious for catching large amounts of bycatch – fish, sea turtles, seabirds and marine mammals – and incidentally killing them during operations.

Among all the fishing methods, bottom trawling, which involves dragging a large net across the seafloor, is the most destructive to our oceans. To protect ocean ecosystems from bottom trawling, Marine Conservation Institute has been a world leader in providing solutions to policymakers in the US and abroad.
