Car Technologies that means the Future is NOW! As we end the decade of the 2010s and enter the 2020s; where have been and where are we going in your automotive world.

This decade has brought us:

V8 performance engines with over 500 horsepower in the Camaro, Mustang, Corvette and Challenger and others. It’s worth noting that all of that power comes with unprecedented fuel economy, safety, and reduced emissions.

The rise of the (CUV) crossover, which blends the best of both the passenger car and the sport utility vehicle, reshaping the entire automotive industry. Drivers' tastes have been moving toward something taller and bulkier since 2010, and every manufacturer has created multiple sized CUVs from the full size to the mini CUV.

Hot SUVs: Lamborghini Urus, ASTON Martin DBX, Bentley Bentayga, Rolls Royce Cullinan, Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover SVR, Jaguar F-Pace, AUDI RSQ8, BMW X6M, Mercedes AMGs, And many others have changed what SUV means.

The 2010s can also be viewed as the rise of the all-electric car. This is not the first time we’ve seen any of it. They were actually produced in the 1880s by Karl Benz, 1916 Baker and others. This time the government is pushing this technology on us with incentives. Sadly, mostly the rich used those incentives to show-off to their friends. See how “green” I am. Charging times are it’s the biggest hurdle along with high-speed chargers and possible health risks.

The electric scooter has appeared quickly with plenty of frustrations and other safety issues. This may be a short-lived industry as many cities have already changed their minds and forcing licenses and restrictions. The future is in question.

Urban planners have taken steps that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. They are reducing the number of lanes on city streets, intentionally slowing down traffic and making room for bicycles, pedestrians and public transit. They are eliminating parking requirements for new construction. Even though auto sales were at a record high and gas prices were at a record low. This is frustrating drivers.

We’re also seeing the early stages of autonomous vehicle controls and “autopilots,” which are supposed to make traffic jams and fender benders go away. The trust of consumers, hackers, and other issues may change the course in this technology. Steering wheels and pedals should not be optional?

Waymo has proven to be a leader in commercial autonomous-vehicle development, which is already shaping business plans for the future of hauling everything, whether it's people or cargo.

Uber unveiled plans to launch what it called a ride-hailing service in 2008. The idea was to provide people with a simple app they could use to schedule and pay for private cars on demand. Now there are multiple ride-hailing services globally.

Standard Apple CarPlay and Android auto, buyers won't purchase a new vehicle that won't let them bring their phones' operating system into the car for familiarity and convenience. There’s an increased focus on in-car digitalization. It has changed the way we've approached several other in-car experiences.

Vintage car auctions are where the world’s wealthy gain access to the exotics of their dreams. Some of these prize vehicles can easily fetch tens of millions of dollars on the auction block. On August 25, 2018, a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO was sold by RM Sotheby’s in Monterrey for a record of $48.4 million as part of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The end of many models of cars this decade including the famed VW Beetle. After nearly 82 years on the market and more than 25 million vehicles sold, Volkswagen ended production of its beloved Beetle. On July 10, 2019, the last People’s Car rolled off the assembly line.

2020 is a new decade, we will see a lot of changes and some things remain the same. People love to drive, they love their cars, and they want their freedom.

Next week we will discuss some future changes that may or may not form the future of transportation.
