Throughout the world we are sinking beneath our own waste. Pollution has become an overwhelming issue for our lives. Infecting the environment of everything living, for humans it is also a critical health issue. In many countries in Asia, garbage spills over into our daily lives, and it's disposal is so careless. A large percentage of our waste finds its way to the sea. It has been a cheap dumping ground with no regulation. Thailand also has so many concerns regarding waste management and abatement. The government is trying to work a solution. Transition takes time as it engages societal shift. The issue is time sensitive. That is the rub.
Citizens play a pivotal role in overcoming these many issues in a creative and embracing manner. It takes some committed souls and an intrepid initiative to make the change. A group of expats in Thailand, Susan Field. together with her friends in Samui, are taking a leadership role in their community. Every week they gather and head out around the Samui Island to clean up the beaches of garbage. Their group also campaigns for strategic placement of bins and timely collection, and for locals and tourists alike to take responsibility for their own garbage, using bins rather than the thoughtless dropping of trash along the way. They created these beautiful and colourful garbage bins to put every where on Samui Island, as well as supplying them to many places in Thailand, to motivate people toward appropriate disposal. Thank you Susan and others committed to this beautifying work, keeping our world clean and safe for ourselves and future generations. It is a worthy effort.
