Flying Alongside the Consolidated XPY-1, 1929

Flying Alongside the Consolidated XPY-1, 1929 The Consolidated Aircraft XPY-1 Admiral was a seaplane designed for the Navy. Consolidated lost out to Martin for the contract. The company enlarged the Admiral's design to create the Commodore flying boat for the civilian market. Consolidated went on to design the PBY Catalina, one of the most successful seaplanes ever built.
In the first half of this video, we join the flight crew as they head out to the plane, which is anchored offshore. We see the engines being started, and the plane taking off and landing.
In the second half of the video, we're in the nose of a chase plane as it takes off alongside the XPY-1, then follows it on a short flight over Annapolis and the U. S. Naval Academy. In a single long shot, we follow the plane from the water until it levels off in flight. There are also several shots of the crew of the chase plane.
