Simple Technique For Achieving Groovier Drums

Simple Technique For Achieving Groovier Drums Support The Channel Here

In today's tutorial, we will be going over respecting the Open Hat, aka the choke! If you've ever used an emulation of a 909 drum machine, you will notice that the closed hat always shuts off the open hat when played together. This helped create some of the more iconic grooves that we have learned to love, and today we will be discussing how you can do something similar with simple drum programming.

A mistake I see a lot is that a lot of people tend to put the closed hat on top of the open hat, Doing this creates more of a static feel to the groove instead of making it jump at you.

Referencing some Nightbass tracks I saw this being done a lot as well due to the open hat driving the rhythm. Closed hats in that genre were more used for making the drum section groovier.
