Five stabbed at rabbi's home at Hanukkah celebration in New York described as 'domestic terrorism' FIVE people attending a Hannukah celebration at a rabbi's house in New York where a man wielding a knife "as big as a broomstick," with two in critical condition.

Ramapo police say the assailant was found "with blood all over him" just under two hours later, and has since been taken into custody.

The alleged attacker, named by CNN as Thomas Grafton is reported to have donned a scarf before storming the home of a Rabbi Rottenberg in Monsey, New York.

Inside, around 100 Hasidic Jews were gathered to watch the lighting of the candle on the seventh day of Hannukah.

Police and witnesses say the attacker pulled out a knife that was "almost as big as a broomstick" and began stabbing people around 10 pm last night.

It's thought the assailant was armed with a machete.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo described the Jewish community stabbing as "domestic terrorism".
