Shakrain is an annual festival of Bangladesh, observed by flying kites. The day marks the end of Poush (the 9th month of Bengali calendar), making it 'Poush Shangkranti'. Due to differences in the style of calendar followed, both 14th & 15th January are considered the dates of Shakrain festival. The main celebration of Shakrain is observed in southern part of Dhaka city, known as Puran Dhaka. The event starts with battle of colourful kites and presentation of Bengali cakes or 'Pitha'. Later, as the night emerges, the presentation changes entirely. The city dazzles with colourful light-shows & fireworks. The end is observed with DJ party.
