Hong Kong cancels New Year's Eve fireworks due to security concerns

The 2020 New Year celebrations for Hong Kong will be muted, as the city braces for more protest actions on New Year’s Eve. After more than six months of protests that show no signs of abating, visitors have shunned the city and locals are avoiding hotspots. Hong Kong's popular annual New Year's Eve fireworks have been cancelled for the first time in a decade due to security concerns.
