Today we're gonna be making some amazing Cantonese food. It's one of the most famous Cantonese dishes, and is some of the best food in Hong Kong and other Cantonese speaking regions. It's not a street food, but a dish that's really popular!
Mike is going to be cooking gu lou yok (咕老肉 - Sweet and Sour Pork) for his girlfriend's grandma, and she's going to be teaching him how to make food. It's gonna be home cooking, so she's going to be giving him the food recipe.
The thing is Mike has been learning Chinese Cantonese, and he's a Mandarin speaker. So we're going to see if he an understand his girlfriend's grandma's Cantonese. In a lot of Cantonese movies, mandarin and Cantonese speakers interact without a problem, but in reality, there are difficulties in understanding each language. You'll see this on today's cooking show!
