The Fear of the LORD
Text: Psalm 90
Title: “For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath”

MOSES’ REGARD FOR GOD

1. Moses had a very high regard for God reflected in his prayer in Psalm 90

2. Moses speaks of God with deep reverence for Him (Psalm 90:1 – 7)

a. God’s faithfulness to His people in being their dwelling place for generations!

b. God is from everlasting to everlasting

c. God’s sovereign power over life and death

d. God’s wrath is to be feared

3. Moses wisely practiced the fear of God

“Who knows the power of Your anger?
For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath” Psalm 90:11

MOSES FEARED THE WRATH OF GOD

1. He experienced the wrath of God (Psalm 90:7)

a. Israel was almost consumed by the anger of the LORD (Cf. Exodus 32)

b. They were terrified by the wrath of God

2. How come God’s wrath was upon them (Psalm 90:8)

a. Because of their iniquities in constantly rebelling against God
(Cf. Deuteronomy 9)

b. Because of their unconfessed secret sins

3. The consequences of God’s wrath (Psalm 90:9)

a. Our days passed away in Your wrath

b. We finish our years like a sigh

c. Life can be painfully cut short because of His judgment!

WISE PRAYERS FROM A MAN WHO FEARED GOD

1. Praying for wisdom (Psalm 90:12)

a. To recognise that our days on earth are numbered

b. To not waste our life with vain living

2. Praying for God to be in our life

a. To return (Psalm 90:13a)

b. To have compassion (Psalm 90:13b)

c. To have mercy upon us (Psalm 90:14)

d. To experience gladness from God (Psalm 90:14 – 15)

3. Praying for a deep and meaningful relationship with God (Psalm 90:16 – 17)

a. To be able to see the work of God and to serve Him

b. To behold the glory of God

c. To see the beauty of God in life

d. To do His work with strength from God!
