Dodge Intrepid ESX Series Concepts - The 80 MPG Hybrid-Electric Cars That Never Made It! Taking a look at the story of the Dodge Intrepid ESX Series of Concept Cars! There were 3 in total, ESX (1996), ESX2 (1998), and ESX3 (2003). These cars were Chrysler's response to a challenge from US President Bill Clinton, and a Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) Project in 1993, where Chrysler, GM, and Ford were attempting to build an 80 mile-per-gallon sedan that didn't sacrifice affordability, performance, or safety. The ESX Series were hybrid-electric and quite impressive for the time, but not much was made of them in the end. Watch along for the full story!
