Is There a Need to Change the Balance of Nutrients ?

There is a basic accepted ratio for our Orchid Nutrients although there is room for some variance. But do we 'need' to change this balance for reasons like growth patterns, seasons, blooming etc? This is a chat about the variables and, as always with me, direct comparisons with wild orchids.
I believe that people worry too much about feeding their orchids and that perhaps more effort could be put into getting all the other things right first.
