Liberal moderate Jason Falinksi says he doesn’t believe it should be up to the federal government to fund a new coal-fired power station, telling Sky News he doesn’t think “taxpayers should be involved in private sector business". The Morrison Government has been under pressure – both externally and internally – about its decision to fund a $4 million feasibility study into a new coal-fried power station at Collinsville in Queensland.
Speaking with Sky News on Thursday, the backbencher said if any government was to get involved, it should be the state government.
“If there are private companies that want to build or retrofit coal-fired power stations then they should do so, then we should create the framework in which they can make those assessments and make those investments,” he said.
