Women officers of the Indian Armed Forces have dragged the Centre in a legal battle over permanent commission and combat postings (command). The Center filed its response in a language that appears controversial. Denying command posts to women, the Center's submission talks of ''different physical standards'' and “challenges of confinement, motherhood and childcare”. The Center has offered 14-year permanent commission to women with 6 more years without commission. The women officers will be retired with pension and other benefits after 20 years of service.
