Procrastination & Pomodoro timer (AirDoro). Memory Palace. Diffused & Focused mode of thinking.

Procrastination & Pomodoro timer (AirDoro). Memory Palace. Diffused & Focused mode of thinking. At one point in my career I was forced to choose between changing my attitude towards work or be fired. I chose to change. Changing meant leaving procrastination and frustration behind me and instead set up goals to take me forward. One of the goals was learning something new, and in order to do that I started with learning how to process information in the most efficient way.
Constant learning, evolving and adopting is a key skill to flourishing in the IT-business. Every single day new features are released, new tools are developed and even new programming languages created. We are under constant pressure of terabytes of new information we need to process and learn in order to stay on top of our daily work.
Researchers have shown that the prefrontal cortex area of our brain has just 4 slots of working memory that together combine into an understanding of the data you are studying, we will call that a chunk. Moreover, your brain can interconnect that chunk with already known information stored in your hippocampus, which will occasionally create "Eureka" - moments when those combinations bring understanding to something you didn't fully understand before.
Our brains have a precise set of patterns to how it consumes and interprets new data and understanding those patterns will greatly help boost your learning skills as well as make the process of studying much more enjoyable. For example: switching between focusing on new material and letting the brain rest activates both the focused and diffused mode of your brain. Another example is that when you look at something that you would rather not do, you activate the areas of your brain associated with pain. But researchers discovered that it doesn’t take long for that neuro discomfort to disappear once you start actually doing it.
Knowing how to learn is the foundation, the base, the iron core of building solid competence in a certain domain. Learning how to learn was a game changer for me, both in my personal and professional life, and I hope it can be for you too.
