In this miniature painting tutorial, I go over a fairly straightforward way to approach painting Non Metallic Metal (NMM). Even though the process isn't very complex, the result you can get with it is quite visually striking. You don't have to use a Snikrot mini from Warhammer 40k to try this out, any miniature or model with some armour on it will work just as well. I find Space Marines are one of the better models to use whenever you want to practice painting Non Metallic Metal, also known as NMM. So if you have any random models from your favourite wargaming system (e.g. Warhammer, Necromunda or Bloodbowl), grab a mini, some paints and your best paintbrush and get cracking.

I use a mix of Scale Color and Valejo paints throughout the video but you can use any paints you want. Be they from Games workshop, Kimera, P3, or Army Painter, it really doesn't matter. You don't have to use Scale75 paints if you you don't have them, or don't like them. Use whatever paint you have available. Notice I only use three paints in the entire painting tutorial. It's a good idea to get used to mixing your paints rather than relying on premixed colours. You'll get a much better understanding of how colours work, and it'll save you a lot of money and headaches in the long run.

If you're more interested in busts for display painting I can recommend watching 'How to Paint Shiny NMM Glasses and Black Hair - Porco Rosso' that will give you an idea on how to approach painting NMM on a much larger miniature. If you're just starting out with Non Metallics then perhaps check out '[Tutorial] - Dwarf Starplayer Part III (Basic NMM Gold)' for a very simple, yet effective tutorial on how to paint a Metal effect without using Metallic paints.
