Major findings from the survey which provided the platform for Nigeria to conduct the first ever genotype test for sickle cell children from the ages of 6months and 5 and half years attributed the prevalence rate of the disease to 1.3 percent.
At the occasion to launch the survey in Abuja, President Mohammadu Buhari said the gesture will provide government with reliable data to address challenges in the health sector.
The President was represented by the Minister of Health,Dr Osagie Ehinare.
On his part, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha,also represented by Dr Tunde Lawal commended the National Population Commission for the feat,saying the survey, put together with support from international development partners is inline with the vision of the present Administration to improve the nation's health sector.
