Why Eating Earlier in the Day is Ideal for Thanksgiving Dinner

Why Eating Earlier in the Day is Ideal for Thanksgiving Dinner Thanksgiving is synonymous with eating too much and falling into a food coma later on.

So, is it better to eat the feast early or late?

Chow down earlier.

Take it from a gastrointestinal expert HuffPost spoke with.

Eating later in the day only messes with digestion issues, and these heavy foods can potentially cause reflux if you lie down after a big meal.

If dinner is already planned for later in the day, the same health guru says it’s a good idea to allow about 2-3 hours at the end of the day for your body to digest everything before going to bed.

That means no late-night leftovers!

So, the earlier the better.

That’s all well and good, but the highest percentage of Americans eat Thanksgiving dinner between 4 and 5 p.m., according to a HuffPost/YouGov survey of 1,000 people.

However, The Atlantic reports survey results from market research firm the NPD Group, and a little more than a third of Thanksgiving meals start between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

But really, it’s not about what you eat, it’s about how much.

Another pro tip is to keep it light; moderation is key.

Overindulging only makes you feel uncomfortable.
