This week the channel takes you back to the Sydney Light Rail and The Town Hall where the in ground power power supply from Circular Quay along George St meets the overhead pantograph power supply from Randwick and the suburbs.
L2 from Circular Quay to Randwick via Central (Station) is run by a fleet of Alstom Citados 305 trams coupled together. The tram as chosen due to it's unique abitiliy to source power through a pantograph and overhead and through an in ground power source that it picked up through mechanisms underneath the tram.
In this video, you will see arrival and departure scenes from The Town Hall Light Rail Stop and the trams as they change power supply from overhead to in ground. Trams will arrive a the stop and lower pantographs from the suburbs to connect to the ground power supply and raise pantographs as they arrive from Circular Quay to connect with the overhead to continue on to the suburbs.
