Koneru Humpy is the Women's World Rapid Champion 2019

In 2016 when Humpy decided to give a break to chess, it was quite a depressing moment for Indian chess. After all she was our best bet to win the world title. Humpy became a mother and her break from chess continued for two long years. In 2018 when she returned back to chess, people doubted whether she could ever perform to the best of her abilities.

Humpy didn't listen to her detractors. She kept working hard and 2019 was the best year of her chess career. She gained nearly 30 Elo points, won the Skolkovo women's GP and now the World Rapid title. How does Humpy manage to play so well? What's the secret of her success. In this interview, right after she became a World Champion, IM Sagar Shah caught up with her and did this interview.
