In this video, I talk about how to engage the audience directly through your Facebook ads, Instagram ads, and all of your other online content. Effective marketing is about connecting with your target customer. In order to truly do so, you need to know who they are.

Recently, I was reading an email that really didn’t grab me. I realized it was because this person had sent that same email to a whole list of people. It wasn’t just for me. I had to stop reading because I felt so disengaged.

As soon as you address a wide audience, you miss hitting the heart or mind of the person you want to reach. You’re simply unable to engage the audience. As you create your content, remind yourself that you’re speaking to one person. By focusing your efforts on a single target, you’ll be able to create effective marketing campaigns that feel authentic.

It’s first helpful to be very clear on who you’re talking to. To do this, you can even give them a name. Give them a persona. That way, you won’t fall into the trap of talking to a group of people. When you come up with a detailed profile of your ideal customer, you can imagine that person each time you put new content out.

Once you start to fine-tune your target, you’ll want to do regular audits of your content in order to make sure you’re keeping it specific. Effective marketing feels personal. Talk to one person rather than a group and you’ll be able to engage the audience in ways that feel real.
