Mr Anderson told Sky News he “despairs” and is “very concerned” about the leadership struggle in his own party.
“I always believed” sorting out differences needed to take place “behind closed doors,” he said, and then to “present a unified front”.
Mr Anderson said “we know the cost of disunity in politics,” and it reflects the “product of identity politics” and that is “what really worries me”.
“We need to focus on what we have in common and put aside this endless pursuit of self-interest,” he said.
“Australians need to focus on what should [be] us pulling together, rather than dividing along identity politics lines.”
