Coronavirus vaccine ‘could be a real disaster without proper precautions’

It could be “a real disaster” if a coronavirus vaccine is produced without requisite testing and confirmation “that it’s safe,” says Infectious Diseases Specialist and Associate Professor at the Australian National University Sanjaya Senanayake.

On Tuesday it was confirmed over 100 cases of the deadly coronavirus have been recorded in Australia.

While over 110,000 cases of the virus have been recorded globally.

Professor Senanayake told Sky News host Peta Credlin it may take “10 to 12 months before we have a widely available vaccine”.

“If we’re going to give it in mass doses all over the world, we need to make sure not only that it works, but that it’s safe”.

“Otherwise that could be a real disaster”.
