The "Consumed" series is my take on CPG news that I find interesting throughout the week. My goal is to add commentary, dive deeper, or bring more context to topics that often do not get covered by the traditional media outlets. Ep. 51 covers the 8/21/19 announcement of Simply Good Foods (SMPL) acquiring the maker of Quest Bar for $1 billion. Quest Nutrition is a healthy lifestyle food company that was started in 2010 by Tom Bilyeu. The company grew by an amazing 57,000% over their first three years in business. It got an investment from VMG Partners in 2015 off a $900 million valuation. Quest Nutrition will be added to Simply Good Foods to get a "better for you" CPG portfolio that will have net sales approaching a billion dollars in fiscal year 2020.
